Direction: West
Numbers: 3, 7, 14, 17 and 24.
Ruling Planets: Neptune and the Dragon's Head (Rahu)

Shiva (Neptune) is the ultimate presiding deity of Aquarius.  Ancient scriptures are full of stories of Shiva's immense musical ability (Aquarius musical stars Delphinis and Satabisha). Shiva, even while wreaking havoc and destruction, does so in a graceful and rhythmical dance form known as tandava, exemplified by his famous nataraja posture. Dancing originates from Shiva, his drum and the rhythm of the universe.

Significance of Shivaratri

(St David of Wales -David became known as Dewi Dyfrwr (David the Waterdrinker) because of his modest monk’s diet of bread and water. Meat and alcohol were forbidden).

Archangel Gabriel, Neptune, Poseidon.

Lord Shiva.

MahaShivaratri is celebrated on the 14th day of dark fortnight when the New Moon is in Aquarius. At this time there is a powerful upsurge of energy which we need to tap into by not sleeping this night. The spine needs to be in an upright position to receive this powerful healing energy.

Today is considered extremely auspicious and to celebrate it you should do the following:
-fast - have only liquids
-wash Shiva Lingam (black stone) with honey, milk, water
-burn candles, especially sky blue and white
-display flowers and fruit
-drumming, dancing, meditating
-chant 'Om Namah Shivaya'.

Then you will be blessed with:
-intiution, healing, solutions to problems, removal of bad karma and obstacles, forgiveness of past sins
-liberation from the cycle of birth and death and attainment of moksha or salvation.

This fast removes 3 bad conditions: illness, karma, sins
This fast bestows 3 good conditions:  health, happiness, success.
Star of hope and wishes come true.

All in all the most important fasting day of the year that will bless your year ahead.

The Shiva Lingam is a phallic symbol and also represents Saturn.

Speak lovingly when you are upset. By shouting, you are hurting the atmosphere around you. Do not disturb the peace. Speak sweetly. Speak lovingly. Whatever else you cannot control, please control your tongue. The blister caused by fire will heal, but the words uttered by a bitter tongue will last forever. There is no greater wealth than self control. treasure your words. Om Namah Shivaya!

Significance of Shivaratri for Women
Mahashivratri Festival is also considered to be an extremely significant festival by women. Married and unmarried women observe this fast and perform Shiva Puja with sincerity to appease Goddess Parvati who is also regarded as ‘Gaura’ - one who bestows marital bliss and long and prosperous married life.

Unmarried women pray for a husband like Lord Shiva who is regarded as the ideal husband.
